Atsu Will Have Access To Several Weapons, But Not Several Accompanying Stances

In a new interview with GamesRadar, creative directors Nate Fox and Jason Connell discussed more about the upcoming game, including some of the innovations, such as not needing to travel to various map icons to meet with quest characters or merchants. That innovation also extends to the combat itself, where stances have been completely removed and replaced with various weapons.

“With Yotei, we’ve added a lot more layers to create a more improvisational feel to the combat,” Fox shared. “It’s deep! We’ve replaced the stance system with weapons – in fact, we added a fifth [weapon] – and these weapons are more than a simple visual replacement.”

For instance, the spear can send enemies flying away, while the kusarigama (the blade that is on a chain) can tackle multiple bad guys at once. There’s also even the ability to disarm enemies and use their own assets against them.

Together, these new updates seemingly create a more natural and creative way to tackle the game’s many enemies. Unlike in the first title, which had you switching to a specific stance to take down a specific foe, it sounds like you’ll be able to handle things as you see fit and on the fly.
