TheXboxexclusives being ported toPlayStationparade has reached theGears of Wargates.Gears of War: Reloaded launches this summer on Xbox and PlayStation, but there’s a benefit for the former if you’re an Xbox lover who’s feeling down about your chosen platform losing its exclusives.

In the Gears of War: Reloaded reveal, Xbox revealed that those who own a digital copy of Gears of War’s Ultimate Edition will be able to upgrade to Reloaded for free. No $10 upgrade path which is the chosen method onPS5and nowNintendo Switch 2, just a free upgrade for anyone who committed to the best-looking version of the original Gears of War when it launched in 2015.

The Ultimate Edition is still available now, not only onGame Pass, but alsoon the Xbox Store for $19.99. If the cogs have started to turn regarding how much money you might be able to save on Reloaded, hold on for just a second. Yes,Reloaded will cost $39.99, which seemingly means you can buy the Ultimate Edition now and get it for $19.99. Unfortunately, that’s not the case.

Forseeing everyone flocking to the half-price Ultimate Edition, and losing out on a lot of Reloaded sales in the process, Xbox has put it down in black and white thatyou needed to have owned the Ultimate Edition before it revealed Reloaded. The official reveal of the Gears of War remaster was made atmidday EST on June 23, 2025. If you owned a digital copy of the Ultimate Edition on Xbox before that time on that day, then congratulations, you areeligible for a free upgrade to Reloaded when it launches on July 21, 2025.

If you have bought the Ultimate Edition since the reveal, thinking you had stumbled and fallen through a loophole, the bad news is Xbox saw you coming. If you want to play Reloaded, you will have to pay $40 for it this summer. The good news is if you’ve not played the original Gears of War before, it’s not $20 wasted. You can now play it right away, and if you love it, you can then play Reloaded on August 26.

Now that Forza and Gears are on PlayStation, it really feels like there’s only one major domino left to fall, and that’sHalo. Sure, there’s stuff likeStarfieldthat still hasn’t made the leap, but Halo is the big one. The series that launched Xbox and has been synonymous with it ever since. My guess is that’s one of, if not the big reveal Xbox is saving for its summer showcase.
