Did you ever think we’d see Gears of War flying the PlayStation colours? What a time we live in.Gears of War: Reloadedhas finally given PlayStation owners to see what all the fuss is about and experience the convenience of waist high walls. Unfortunately, the multiplayer beta did not go as well as planned.
Many reported connectivity issues that didn’t allow them to check out the beta over the weekend, while others said that they weren’t able to play because theirfree upgrade for owning the original Gears of War: Ultimate Editionstill hadn’t arrived. To make things worse, the beta ended as scheduled in middle of the day (US time at least) on Sunday, leaving many fans wishing it had been extended.
Grinding Gears
Connectivity issues during a beta test is pretty normal, and with the popular title finally coming to PlayStation, you can imagine that there were a lot of people trying to get in. Unfortunately, there was too much load on the server, which left a lot of fans hanging. Weeding out issues is the whole point of a beta, but fans were disappointed to learn that the test didn’t run a little longer to make up for lost time.
Usually, weekend beta tests run until Sunday evenings US time, or even Monday morning, to give enough people the chance to play and the developers enough time to collect learnings. However, with the beta being so rough already, fans were even more disappointed that they didn’t get the most out of the test. Some even took this as a bad omen for Gears of War: E-Day.
“Soooooo y’all just not gonna put more days in with all the server issues y’all had?” said a comment in response to a tweet signalling the end of the test period. With the game launching on August 26, many fear that we might get a half-baked version of the classic title. “Severely disappointed. This game can’t launch like this in August so I really hope y’all make changes,” said another. “Hoping the beta is actually utilized how it should be.”
“I can’t believe with all the server problems where a lot of people couldn’t even get into a game Friday, that we don’t even get a full Sunday to play,” it seems everyone thinks that the game needs more time in the oven. With just over two months till launch, Gears of War: Reloaded currently does not look like it’ll get a great reception, and this disastrous beta has only made fears worse.
