In case you missed it,Gears of Waris finally coming toPlayStationconsoles viaGears of War: Reloaded, aremaster of the original 2006 title, complete with online multiplayer, and, of course, the game’s iconic campaign.
With the game firmly set for late August, pre-orders have opened up, and, well,it’s already the top title on the PlayStation Store charts, ahead of evenDeath Stranding 2: On the Beach.
Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time that an Xbox title sits atop the PS Store top sellers list,as back in April, the chart was filled with the Oblivion Remaster, Black Ops 6, Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones. Before that, two versions of Forza Horizon 5 were among the top pre-orders.
That said, those who’ve pre-ordered the game were granted access to the Reloaded cross-platform beta, and, let’s just say, PlayStation fans are finding out first-hand just how hard Gears multiplayer truly is.
Gears Multiplayer Is Wildly Unforgiving For First-Time Players
Taking to Reddit, PlayStation gamers have begun sharing their experiences with the former Xbox exclusive, which plays extremely differently than any other multiplayer shooter.
There’s this player, who learned that the Snub Pistol is a great way to take down enemies due to its high fire rate. Only, they were on the receiving end of an insta-kill. Elsewhere, another player wanted to know how exactly others were using “rocket launchers,“before finding out that the Boomshot is a first-come, first-served beast.
In the r/PlayStation sub, fans discussed their first matches in the world of Gears. “Had 2 games and got wrecked, I’m awful!“one player wrote. Another suggested turning off cross-play to maximize the fun levels. “Turned off cross play and the experience feels a lot better,“they wrote.
Given that the beta is limited to pre-orders, it’s likely a small sample. However, come August, that’s when things will get really interesting, especially as more players begin to figure out the meta behind the multiplayer.
