The year is 2008, you turn on yourXbox 360and squad up with your friends in the originalCall of Duty: Modern Warfareor the recently-releasedGrand Theft Auto IV. Christopher Nolan’sThe Dark Knight is somehow the best movie you’ve ever seen, and you haveno clue just how many Marvel movies will be releasedfollowing the success of Iron Man.
You do all of that while wearing a pair of limited-editionGears of Warsneakers.
Wait, what?
OK, maybe not everyone, but this long-time Gears of War fan was quick to show everyone their unmatched style with a look at some sneakers that absolutely scream 2008.
There’s No Doubt That These Were The “Coolest” Shoes Around Over A Decade Ago
Taking to Reddit, u/Mission-Sleep-2383 showed off their pristine Globe Fusion x Gears of War sneakers, complete with a themed box and acrylic display case.
The sneakers, which came out in 2008, two years after Gears of War first burst onto the scene, have the iconic COG symbol on both shoes, along with soles featuring the game’s cast, including Marcus Fenix.
In true 2008 style, they are super boxy, with extremely large laces and a tongue that is unnecessarily huge.
According to a release from all the way back then, the shoes retailed for $82, and while the author acknowledged that most collabs are “lame,” they said these kicks were anything but awful.
“Globes were my favorite shoes back then,“one jealous gamer wrote in part. “I wish I could’ve afforded these back then and now.”
Unfortunately, as cool as these shoes are, they seemingly have not appreciated in value. An eBay listing from just five days agohas these kicks selling for $82.50, or just .50 cents more than what they were retailing for. Ouch!
Still, with the release of Gears of War: Reloaded rapidly approaching, who knows. Maybe this will become the hottest item on the planet. At the very least, you can stomp on inexperienced PlayStation players in style.
