Gears of War: Reloadedisn’t the onlyGears of Wartitle set to come out soon, as it was revealed thatGears of War: E-Daywill be released come 2026. No date was given, but it’s a nice confirmation nonetheless, as the game was only just revealed one year ago.
As revealed during Sunday’s Xbox Game Showcase, E-Day,which is being developed by The Coalition with assistance from People Can Fly, will release in 2026.
The announcement did not include a trailer, unfortunately, though for those interested in Reloaded,it did have a new trailer, confirming some of the game’s features for when it launches later this summer.
When E-Day does release in 2026, it’ll mark the first true Gears game since Gears 5 in 2019, the longest break between releases in the franchise’s near-20-year history.
E-Day Will Take You Back In Time To The Beginning
Perhaps most interesting about E-Day is the fact that it won’t continue the story from Gears 5 and the cliffhanger it established at the end of the game. Rather, it’ll take players to the beginning of the Gears timeline on Emergence Day, AKA, E-Day,complete with younger versions of Marcus and Dom, along with their original voice actors.
That said, beyond telling the story of how the world of Gears came to be,it’ll also serve as an origin for other elements of the franchise, including the iconic Lancer. After all, there had to be a reason to develop a gun with a literal chainsaw on it.
Beyond E-Day, it was also revealed that Gears of War: Reloaded, the remaster of the original Gears of War title that will also be coming to PlayStation 5, would have an open beta beginning next week. Speaking of the PS5, it seems like E-Day is safe as an Xbox console exclusive, at least for the time being. Unlike Reloaded, additional consoles have not been revealed or confirmed.
E-Day’s 2026 launch window was just one of several announcements from Sunday’s Xbox Games Showcase. Elsewhere, thepreviously leaked Persona 4 Remake was confirmed, andThe Outer Wilds 2 got a release date (October 29), among other noteworthy reveals.
