Dragon Age: The Veilguardis all about Solas, afterDragon Age: Inquisitionset him up asour next antagonist. Ultimately, we did actually end up working with Solas in the sequel, but he was still incredibly antagonistic, and the story revolved around his plan to restore the world of the ancient elves - damning those living in the world as it is now.
However, even though The Veilguard is all about Solas, that doesn’t mean that it’s his actor’s favourite game in the series. Speaking at Power Con in Scotland, Gareth David-Lloyd says that he’s played his way through theDragon Ageseries, and Inquisition is still his favourite.
Gareth David-Lloyd Loves Dragon Age: Inquisition, And Has Played It Three Times
During a panel about Dragon Age, fellow Dragon Age actor Joseph Capp (who plays Elgar’nan) asked David-Lloyd what his favourite game in the series is, and he was quick to answer: “Inquisition - if you romance Solas.”
And indeed, he has - he didn’t want to leave any stone unturned before getting in the recording booth for The Veilguard. “So, I played Inquisition three times and every single time I was always friends with myself - Solas,” he laughs. “In fact, the last time I played it,I romanced myself, which is a bit weird.”
With that said, he has played The Veilguard, and you won’t be surprised to hear thathis favourite endingis the one in which Solas gets to make amends and redeem himself. “Despite all his flaws and his trickery, there’s a righteous good soul in there somewhere,” he says.
Elsewhere during the panel, we’re given some more insight into the game’s development. Here, David-Lloyd said that he was originally going to perform the mocap for Solas, but Covid got in the way. As a result, the mocap was performed by someone else, and he was told to deliver his lines to match that performance. This did not work well, and David-Lloyd was then brought back to re-record the lines, and the mocap was redone to match him instead.
