Many of us started building up our video game collection as children. While it was possible to see the value of a game during this time, it’s hard to judge the future value. As such, you may have given away a few games in your life, only to see them spike in value later on.

Here, we are going to take a look at some games that we sold or traded away, only to later see that they became quite valuable. For the most part, these games are hard to obtain now if you are looking to buy an original copy.

7Any Pokemon Game

Listen, Pokemon games are expensive. If you want to buy any pre-Switch Pokemon game at a reasonable price, well… good luck. When I was in high school, I remember getting Pokemon Black and playing it nonstop. If you are anything like us, you’ve made the mistake of trading games like this into a store for just a few bucks.

Now, a complete-in-box version of Pokemon Black easily goes for over $100 USD. Many of us definitely know the feeling of either trading or selling a Pokemon game for very cheap. Thankfully, I still have other older Pokemon games (like Emerald) that I held on to.

6Chrono Trigger

Did you ever own a video game as a child, but had no clue where it even came from? As a kid, some games are just a part of your life. That was Chrono Trigger. Of course, if your young self didn’t really care about it, you just tossed it to the side (like us).

Now,Chrono Trigger is expensive. The SNES version goes for around $200 USD currently, and the Nintendo DS version is quite pricey as well. We found a loose cartridge on eBay for $65 USD, but new/sealed versions can also surpass $100 USD.

Two miis play Table Tennis in Wii Sports Resort

5Wii Sports + Wii Sports Resort

This is a bundle of two games; Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. Personally, my won Wii was one at a Christmas party raffle. My parents came home with a Wii and a ton of games, including this bundle. Years later, they sold everything, and the two-game bundle disappeared forever.

The prices for this bundle are quite hefty, with some listings approaching $100 USD. If you want to get your hands on an unbundled Wii Sports or Wii Sports Resort, you are looking at around $20 to $50 USD, which is still a lot considering Wii Sportscame with a lot of Wii consoles.

Harry by a notepad save point in the original Silent Hill.

4Silent Hill

Silent Hill originally launched for the PlayStation 1 back in 1999. While there have been a lot of additions to the franchise since then, the first game can easily sell for over $150 USD. Some mint versions sell for upwards of $400 USD, which is quite impressive.

This is the type of game that you had because an older sibling played it. I don’t have memories of actually playing Silent Hill, but I remember it being perched on the TV console; I was just too scared to play it.

3The Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask

Majora’s Mask is another game that can beplayed on several consoles, but the Nintendo 64 version sells for prices that would make your jaw drop. We found several sold listings on eBay where a buyer spent around $1,000 USD for a sealed copy. Sure, my old copy wasn’t sealed, but CIB listings still go for around $100 to $200 USD.

If you were lucky enough, you may have even gotten your hands on the collector’s edition, you may be unknowingly sitting on hundreds of dollars. We found several graded versions selling anywhere from $1,000 to $3,000 USD.

Party walking through a suburban street in EarthBound.

2EarthBound

EarthBound launched for the SNES in 1994, and is still quite a popular game. If you picked up the game in the ’90s, or even in the early 2000’s as a secondhand copy, then just know that it’s now worth over $1,000 USD.

What’s more, the SNES player guide also seems to go for quite a hefty price; most listings go for around $200 to $300 USD. If you either sold/traded your copy, or never had one, you still may want to play EarthBound. It’s a phenomenal game, but it may be easier to just play it through Nintendo Switch Online (in the virtual SNES library).

1Nintendo DS + Games

Last but not least, we have the Nintendo DS, including any games that you may have had. This isn’t a specific game, but it’s definitely worth mentioning. Many of us had some version of the DS and sold it, along with a bundle of games. Personally, I traded in my metallic pink DS Lite for store credit at a local game store, but the store closed down a few months later.

Now, DSs are a hot item. With the E-Shop officially closed, DS games are also quite expensive. I fully regret getting rid of my DS and stash of games, even if they never increased in value. The Nintendo DS (and all versions) are still quite popular, so you may be able to find one being sold online if you are willing to pay a slightly inflated price.
