Summary

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros was just unveiled atSummer Game Fest. This real-time strategy appears to diverge heavily from the story in both the book and the show, as we see Jon Snow join the Night King’s army.

The announcement trailer only includes cinematics, so there’s no gameplay for now. However, we’re told that it will be an RTS, and judging from the trailer, the battles we fight in won’t necesarily follow the plot of A Song of Ice and Fire.

Game Of Thrones: War For Westeros Reveal Trailer Shows Jon Snow Losing To The Night King

Stick with me here… this one might actually be good.

In the cinematic, we see Jon Snow fighting one-on-one with the Night King, while Jaime Lannister leads Queen Cersei’s armies into battle, and Daenerys Targaryen flies on a dragon overhead. The story appears towards the end of the show, as Daenerys is fighting the Lannisters, while Jon deals with the Night King. However, both battles seem to take a very different turn than they do in canon, as Daenerys' dragon falls from the sky, and Jon joins the Army of the Dead.

This comes after a mostly disappointing series of Game of Thrones gaming ventures, with the most recent beingGame of Thrones: Kingsroad. While the gameplay and visuals show a lot of promise, many agree that it’s brought down by its monetisation, with players arguing that it’saimed at mobile players, despite also launching on PC.

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros will be with us at some point in 2026. Right now, the only platform that it’s been confirmed for is PC.
