Listen, by this point, many of us are painfully aware ofjust how valuable some of the gamesthat we either neglected to take care of as children or had zero foresight to collect are worth nowadays.
What hurts even more, is knowing just how cheap some of these games were back in the day, compared to their current-day prices. In other words, a $10 purchase back then could be worth as much as $150 today. Start doing the math, and, well, some of us could’ve been millionaires.
To help further rub salt in the wound, one gamer used the Wayback Machine to show how cheap GameCube games were as recently as 2010. You’ll be kicking yourself, too.
GameStop Was Practically Giving Away GameCube Games Back in 2010
As first shared on Reddit, the GameStop website in 2010 had some pretty noteworthy GameCube games for dirt-cheap prices.
Take, for example, Pokemon Coloseeum. The pre-owned price back in 2010 was $12.99, a bargain even then for such an iconic game. Flash forward to today, and you likely won’t find a copy of Colosseum for anything less than $115,according to PriceCharting.
Similarly, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle was also $12.99 back then, andit’s fetching around $54.99 for a loose copy today. Even something as widely avaiable as Super Smash Bros. Melee, which had a $14.99 pricetag,is now worth on average $45.
“I wish I was an adult with disposable income in 2010,“the top commenter wrote.
We’re right there with you, bud.
“So many of us got disposable income just in time for physical media to die,“another commenter wrote in response. Not only is physical media becoming a lot more scarce, but what is available is routinely skyrocketing in price, as people attempt to future-proof their wallets.
In the end, what’s done is done. But it is quite the trip looking back at how undesirable some of this stuff was compared to today, along with the possibilities that might’ve sprouted had we all been a whole lot smarter.
