Funko revealed thatAstro Bot would be getting a celebratory Popafter the Team Asobi platformerwon Game of the Year in 2024. It even showed it off and opened pre-orders. However, more than six months later, those pre-orders are yet to be fulfilled, and Funko has issued an update and an apology.
ThePlayStationmascot’s Funko Pop was revealed right after the platformer won Game of the Year, and those lucky enough to place a pre-order before the window slammed shut before Christmas were told their Pops would be with them by May 15, 2025. That date came and went a month ago, but the Pops did not.
Now, Funko has issued a statement explaining what’s going on, and it’s good news and bad news. In an email to those who placed pre-orders, shared by DisTrackers, Funko writes that turning Astro Bot into a Pop has been “trickier than expected”, comparing the process to a surprise boss battle.
Funko Has An Update For Those Of You Waiting For Its Astro Bot Pop
Seems Turning Astro Into A Funko Pop Is Harder Than It Looks
Unfortunately, the update isn’t finally here because your Astro Bot Funko Pops are now winging their way to you. Their overdue release date has been pushed back, and now the Pops aren’t expected to be with the customers who ordered them last Decemberuntil May 13, 2025. That’ll mean almost a year will have passed between pre-order and delivery, and by the time you have them, we’ll be arguing over 2025’s GOTY nominees.
There’s also no extra stock, which means if you missed out, you still can’t buy one. Annoying, but probably for the best that Funko doesn’t add more orders before it has dealt with the original ones.
Funko has acknowledged that’s not okay, particularly after waiting a month beyond the announced release date to provide an update, and has thrown in something to try and soften the blow. Those who placed an Astro Bot Funko Pop pre-ordershould have been sent a $5 voucherto spend on their next Pop. Yes, that does technically mean giving Funko even more money, but if you planned on buying another Pop, you can now get it for less.
On the bright side, Astro Bot’s Funko Pop release being pushed to the end of the year means the game’s continued wave of momentum will hopefully continue throughout 2025. Free bonus levels have kept people going back to the GOTY,and more levels are coming on July 10.Astro Bot’s Nendoroid was also restocked in May, but if you’re only just learning about that now, you’re almost certainly too late.
