Judging by how wellForza Horizon 5did onXboxconsoles, it was obvious it would do well when released for PS5. But, even Sony must be surprised by how fast Playground Games' flagship racing title has closed in on the top dogs on the PlayStation 5 platform, even including the PlayStation-exclusive Game of the Year winner,Astro Bot.
When it launched earlier in 2025 for PlayStation 5,Forza Horizon 5 was received extraordinarily well. In May, it wasreported that Forza Horizon 5 was performing betterthan the other two pillars that made their way to PS5 from Xbox (Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, andSea of Thieves), essentially doubling up sales of the other two games combined.
Push Square has detailedjust how successful the franchise has been in the three months the racing title has been available on the PS5 console. It’s worth mentioning that Forza Horizon 5 is a digital-only release, so the PlayStation Store sales figure is an accurate one. In fact, since its release in April 2025, Forza Horizon 5 has sold nearly the same number of copies as Sony’s recent darling, Astro Bot.
Forza Horizon 5 Sells 2 Million Units On PS5 In One Month
The sales report found its legs due to the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the latest round of Microsoft layoffs. Microsoft’s latest purge reportedly affected around 9,000 jobs, and Forza Motorsport’s Turn 10 team was effected. Turn 10 was hit badly by the recent round of layoffs, so Microsoft changed their position to assist with the Forza Horizon series. This change has effectivelyshelved Motorsport.
On a former staffer’s LinkedIn (found by Push Square), some information about the PS5 sales numbers for Forza Horizon 5 was revealed. Ex-Turn 10 Game and Level Designer Harrison Bolin posted his resume toLinkedInafter being made redundant by Microsoft, and stated he had “Created cross-platform feature designs enabling Forza Horizon 5 (PS5, 2025) to sell 2 million units in one month on PS5 alone”.
While the sales numbers prove porting Xbox exclusives to the PlayStation ecosystem is fruitful for Xbox, it also continues to expose the damage the latest round of layoffs wrought on affected studios at Microsoft. While the future looks bright for Forza Horizon, people are looking for jobs, and that never fails to hurt.
