Specifically, in the month of May, Fortnite experienced a record-low player count, one it hadn’t experienced since 2023.
Star Wars Was Seemingly Not A Hit In Fortnite
As first reported by Dexerto, Fortnite saw an average of 1,043,448 players, including a peak of 2,356,174 players,according to the stats on the website Fortnite.gg. On the surface, it’s a large number, one that many games would kill to have, but for Fortnite, it represents a two-year low.
The last time that Fortnite had that few players was May 2023, when it averaged 924,795 gamers, with a 1,813,911 peak.
On the back of those low numbers, Epic Games revealed on social media that beginning June 7, it will sunset the Fortnite OG Ranked, meaning players only have a handful of days left to play it before it goes away.
It’s unclear why exactly Fortnite experienced such lows in May, as Star Wars as a whole was having a surge in popularity,with Battlefront 2 in particular seeing a huge turnaround. That said, it could be that playerswere less than enthused with the available selection of weaponsor thepresence of an AI chatbot version of Darth Vader.
Ultimately, only time will tell if this drop in players is just a blip in the timeline or a sign of things to come.
