Blumhouse Productions has released the first trailer forFive Nights at Freddy’s 2, a sequel to the hugely successful film adaptation of Scott Cawthon’s game series.
Emma Tammi is back to direct the sequel, along with returning cast members Josh Hutcherson (Mike), Elizabeth Lail (Vanessa), Piper Rubio (Abby), Matthew Lillard (William), and Theodus Crane (Jeremiah).
Skeet Ulrich will join the cast as Henry Emily, one of the co-founders of Freddy Fazbear’s. Wayne Knight, McKenna Grace and Teo Briones have also been cast in unannounced roles.
Fazfest Frenzy
The sequel takes place a year after the events of the first movie. Mike and Vanessa’s deadly encounter with the sentient animatronics of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza has become a local folk legend, inspiring the first-ever Fazfest festival.
Abby longs to see her “friends” again and runs away to try and find Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy. This results in Mike and Vanessa uncovering the original Freddy Fazbear’s restaurant, revealing dark secrets about the chain’s origin, and unintentionally rousing a dormant evil.
You have to question the decision-making abilities of these characters for opting to go back inside a pizzeria they know has a reasonable chance of having murderous animatronics inside.
The trailer leads with the tagline, “Evil has left the building,” and depicts public encounters with Freddy Fazbear and his murderous cohort of animatronics.
It appears the first act of the movie takes place in the original pizzeria, but much of the film then focuses on the escaped animatronics and the murderous chaos they inflict upon the unsuspecting public.
The Fazfest festival is a convenient plot device that allows the animatronics to roam around in public without attracting attention, because many attendees are emulating characters from Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.
Blumhouse will be hoping that lightning strikes twice, given that the original Five Nights at Freddy’s was the production company’s highest-grossing film ever. This was despite generally negative reviews, which criticised the film for being unscary and tonally inconsistent.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is set to release on July 14, 2025.
