Summary
Legorekindled its relationship withThe Lord of the Ringsin 2023, and the two have been releasing one set per year together ever since. There has been chatter that the one set per year trend might be bucked in 2025, and now a leaked image of this year’s second LOTR set appears to have confirmed that chatter.
Lego released a set modeled after The Shirelast month, and even though it’s more than 2,000 pieces and costs $269.99, it’s the smallest and cheapest Lord of the Rings set of the modern era. Before that set had even been released, rumors suggesteda second set depicting Gandalf’s battle with a Balrogin Fellowship of the Ring would be following it this summer.
Those rumors just got significantly more solid as images of its packaging have leaked online. It’s unclear where exactly these images have come from, butClay_Brickshas shared them onthe Legoleak subreddit. If the leak is legitimate, which it appears to be, the new images confirm prior rumors thatthe set will be 1,201 pieces, so even smaller than the already smallest LOTR set. The leak doesn’t include a potential price.
Prior rumors about the Balrog set have claimed it will cost $120, which seems about right.
Gandalf’s Iconic Balrog Battle Is Being Immortalized In Lego
Via A Set That Will Sit Neatly On Your Bookshelf
When the first details about this set leaked a while ago, Lego Book Nooks weren’t a thing. Now they are - Sherlock Holmes and Harry Potter Book Nooks are now available to pre-order - it further suggests this Lord of the Rings option will join it soon. It’s also why this set might not be what you want it to be.
Replies to the Reddit post are pretty split regarding the set’s design. Some don’t appear to be sold on such a huge battle being condensed down, whereas others are happy with it, pointing to what these new Book Nook sets have been made for. They’re designed to sit neatly on your shelf, holding up your, presumably, Lord of the Rings books.
The images do show that the set can be opened up, and the images suggest you don’t even need to confine the Balrog and the Gandalf Minifigure that comes with it to the faux stone Lego structure that comes with it. The revealed Book Nooks will be released on July 14, 2025, so there’s a chance the Balrog option joins them. It’s more likely the next Lord of the Rings set is released later this year though with earlier rumors suggesting it will be here in August.
The Lord of the Rings: The Shire
The Shire is joining the Lord of the Rings locations that have been immortalized as Lego sets. Made up of 2,017 pieces, the set is a recreation of Bag End, Bilbo Baggins' home, and includes nine Minifigures based on Bilbo, Gandalf, and other characters from The Lord of the Rings.
