Fire Emblemhas been one ofNintendo’smore consistently-supported series in recent years, as anyone that’s ever playedSuper Smash Bros.can probably tell you. Even outside of that, we’ve had two major Fire Emblem games released in the past six years, those beingThree Housesin 2019, andEngagein 2023, both well-liked games for different reasons.
When it comes to game development, a roughly four-year gap between games is considered pretty speedy, so with that kind of output, it’s sensible for people to start wondering when the next Fire Emblem might be coming. According to one developer’s portfolio, it could be here sooner rather than later.
Fire Emblem Might Be Making Its Nintendo Switch 2 Debut Soon
First spotted by a Reddit user called Andree1234and shared on the GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit,a developer named Taksehi Maruyamaclaims to currently be doing some 3D character modeling for Nintendo as a contractor. Pretty standard stuff, but he also seems to mention exactly what game he’s working on, as the description for the job claims the modeling is for “The sequel of Nintendo’s SRPG(Tactical role-playing game) on Switch2”.
Nintendo is known for many things, but the only established tactical role-playing game under its belt currently is Fire Emblem, so Maruyama appears to be flat out confirming that he’s working on a Fire Emblem game for the Nintendo Switch 2. Many have pointed out that he’s currently also working for Sega, suggesting a team-up of some sorts, with Project X Zone 2’s name thrown around as a possibility.
Personally, I think the likelihood of this being Fire Emblem is far more likely, especially considering that the word “sequel” is possibly being used a little loosely here. Fire Emblem games are rarely direct sequels to other games, usually coming as standalone experiences, and it’s possible that dodgy translations issue could just mean that Maruyama is working on a new game in the Fire Emblem series, or simply a Switch 2 port. A Fire Emblem: Three Houses Switch 2 port would probably sell like hotcakes.
That being said, it certainly looks likesomethingFire Emblem is coming - we just have to wait and see what it is. With rumors of a Nintendo Direct coming towards the end of this month, which is also reportedly where we’ll probably see Metroid Prime 4: Beyond’s release date, we might find out more about this mystery tactical RPG very soon.
