There are more than 300 bots for you to rescue inAstro Bot, with just about every major character that has ever been even remotely associated withPlayStationamong their ranks, with one glaring omission -Final Fantasy. That has now been rectified as today’s new challenge levels have added two Final Fantasy Bots for you to rescue.
Team Asobi has kept the DLC coming since Astro Bot launched last year, giving us a steady flow of challenge levels along withthe fantastic Winter Wonderland level. Each addition has brought more characters from various games along with it, andwhen PlayStation confirmed more levels were comingduring its most recent State of Play, fans got their hopes up that this would be the one that adds Final Fantasy to the mix.
Astro Bot finally has its first Final Fantasy characters
Just in time for what appears to be the definitive end of the game
Despite no Final Fantasy Bots in the base game, you were right to get your hopes up. PlayStation dropped all five challenge levels at once, which I was not expecting, and the first VIP Bot waiting to be rescued isFinal Fantasy 7’s Cloud. He’s not the only Bot from the series to be introduced to 2024’s Game of the Year either, as Sephiroth is waiting for you at what seems to be the end of the game, for real this time.
After completing the four new challenge levels added to the Vicious Void, a fifth and final level called Megamix Mastery will appear. Complete that level, and not only will you be rewarded with a Sephiroth Bot, but a thanks for playing message will appear, seemingly indicating that your Astro Bot journey has come to an end. Unless you still have more Bots to unlock and puzzle pieces to find, of course.
That means Cloud and Sephiroth will likely be the only Final Fantasy Bots added to the game, but some otherSquare Enixcameos have been introduced today, too. Waiting at the ends of the other new challenge levels are 2B fromNier: Automata, Serge fromChrono Cross, and Atsu from the upcomingGhost of Yotei, whom we already knew about.
Fans were fearful that Square and PlayStation might have fallen out, and in turn, that would mean no Final Fantasy Bots in Astro Bot. It seems we’re getting the happy ending thatTeam Asobi boss Nicolas Doucet hinted at when we interviewed himearlier this year. When asked if we’d be seeing Final Fantasy cameos in Astro Bot, he said “we’ll see”, and well, here we are.
