At this point, we’re all used to trading cards getting bought up and then resold for a ridiculous amount of money online. However, with this card in theMagic: The GatheringFinal Fantasy run, there’s a good reason why they’re going for so much online - there are only 77 of them out in circulation.

We are, of course, talking aboutthe golden foil version of the Travelling Chocobo card. There are 77 of them available as part of theFinal Fantasy Universes Beyond run with MTG, and we already know that someone was lucky enough to pull one - and then resell it for around $40,000.

An MTG Fan Has Already Made $40,00 From Reselling A Rare Travelling Chocobo Card

The individual who pulled the card got in contact withWargamerto confirm that they were behind the sale. Going by the username Xopher, he verified that he was behind the eBay listing, which put the card up for $50,000, or best offer. Wargamer reports that it went for an offer instead, closer to $40,000 than the asking price. The seller had actually put it up for $200,000 originally, but to little surprise, no one was interested.

Xopher declined to share the exact amount that they have received for the card, but it’s clear that it’s made him a hell of a lot richer. He says that he was “pained” to part with the golden Chocobo, as he is a Final Fantasy fan, but this figure would certainly be difficult to resist.

Magic The Gathering Cover

If this is all sounding a bit familiar, there’s a good reason for it. When MTG had a big crossover with The Lord of the Rings, we hadthe famous The One Ring card. As the name suggests, there was just one of these cards in circulation, so there was a lot of anticipation as we waited to see who would get it in their pack, and what they would do with it. Ultimately, the lucky owner was MTG fan Brook Trafton, who went on tosell it to rapper Post Malone for more than $2 million. So, it’s understandable why Xopher thought they had a shot at selling the Travelling Chocobo bard for $200k originally, as there is precedent for this.

With our first confirmed sale of a golden Travelling Chocobo card out of the way, we will have to wait and see if this guides the price for other resellers. Who knows just how much collectors will be willing to part with? Perhaps Post Malone will swoop in again, able to flex both of the ultra-rare cards…
