After originally releasing on thePlayStation 5in 2023,Final Fantasy 16has quickly made its way beyondSony’s flagship console. In 2024,the game was ported to PC, and just a few weeks ago,it was released via shadowdrop on the Xbox Series X/S, leaving only theNintendo Switchas the only console without the latest entry.

Well, it looks like that could change.

As first spotted by Video Games Chronicle, series producer Naoki Yoshida, AKA Yoshi-P, recently said during a livestream that it’s “just Nintendo left” when it comes to porting FF16. Creative director Kazutoyo Maehiro responded by saying that he will “do my best.”

That’s about as big of a tease as it gets, though it ultimately remains to be seen when a port could come to the console, and if it will be limited to just theSwitch 2.

The Nintendo Switch Has Quickly Become A Hub For Final Fantasy

With the release of FF16 on Xbox, the consolehas become essentially the only platform where players can experience all the mainline games, save for Final Fantasy 11, which isn’t accessible to begin with.

That said, the Switch also deserves some spotlight when it comes to the legendary JRPG franchise. Again, outside 11, the handheld is only missing 13 and 15, which could obviously change pretty quickly. It’s already set to get Final Fantasy 7 Remake at some point, with the other trilogy titles likely to follow down the line.

In other words, a port to the Switch makes a ton of sense. The only thing that could hold it backis the reported poor sales of FF16 on Xbox, which might cause Square to think twice about whether it’s worth the investment. Either way, in Yoshi-P we trust.
