Early this month,MicrosoftandSquare Enixmadegood on their promiseto bring moreFinal Fantasytitles to theXboxplatform, revealing thatFinal Fantasy 16was available immediately, and thatFinal Fantasy 7 Remakewould beavailable before the end of the year.
Normally, that would be a cause for celebration. However, according to two separate reports, there are some outstanding concerns, as Final Fantasy 16 hasn’t sold particularly well so far, and it is also seemingly poorly optimized on top of all that.
Things Aren’t Looking Pretty For The Final Fantasy 16 Xbox Port
To start,as first reported by Push Square, analytics firm Alinea Analytics is reporting that the port has only managed to sell 22,000 copies on the Xbox platform.
The firm’s word came on the heels ofit being reported that FF16 was No. 443 on the Xbox “Most Played” leaderboard, next to titles that were either backwards compatible or years-old releases.
However, that’s not all that’s going on with Final Fantasy 16, as Digital Foundry has found that the port is less than ideal. Apparently, the Xbox version runs at a much lower resolution, according to the findings, andas cited by Video Games Chronicle. In its “Performance Mode,” the game runs at 720p on the Series X, compared to 1080p on the base PS5.
It’s all created a situation where not only is the game not selling well, but it also reportedly doesn’t perform well, which certainly won’t help push any new sales. After all, who wants to be locked to 720p on high-end hardware? It remains to be seen what, if anything, will be done for Final Fantasy 16. More so, it adds some high pressure to the upcoming port of FF7 Remake.
