At long last,Final Fantasy 14fans are getting a feature that they’ve been after for ages. As of Patch 7.3,Square Enixis officially rolling out optional chat bubbles, letting users on all platforms use the feature which is currently only available with mods.
Chat bubbles were shown off in Final Fantasy 14 screenshotsas early as October 2023, but there was no word on when they would be rolled out into the game. Back then, the devs just said it was in the works, and now, we know that it will be available in-game sometime in early August.
No, The Devs Didn’t Forget About Chat Bubbles Coming To Final Fantasy 14
This was revealed as part of today’s Live Letter, going over what we can expect from Patch 7.3. As per the broadcast, the new update will be called The Promise of Tomorrow.
On the subject of chat bubbles, Yoshi-P said that the work on the feature was “basically done”, so it will be ready in time for the next update. It will be turned off by default, so you’ll have to go into the options to enable it. The bubbles will also be cut off if there are too many words, and you can choose to have it only show one or two lines of text, so you don’t have to worry about spammers taking over your screen. On top of that, you can turn it off during battle and PvP.
There have long been fan-made solutions to the lack of chat bubbles, with apluginavailable for anyone playing on PC. However, this is against the terms of service, so you’re using this at your own risk. Thankfully, you won’t have to take that risk much longer, and you’ll be able to toggle this on regardless of the platform you’re playing on.
Final Fantasy 14’s The Promise of Tomorrow update will go live at some point in early August. A more specific release date is not available at this time.
