Summary

The Final Destination franchise has been revived via Bloodlines after lying dormant for more than a decade. The new movie is off to a flying start, already making almost $200 million at the box office. However, one screening of the film almost ended in a Final Destination-style disaster last week.

Reported by Argentinian news site Infobae, Fiamma Villaverde was passing a theater with her daughter and friend when they noticed a Bloodlines screening had just begun, so they bought tickets and went in to watch the movie. What Villaverde didn’t realize when she sat down was that part of the ceiling directly above her was seemingly in ill-repair, and midway through the movie, it fell on her.

Villaverde has detailed the incident to Infobae, noting that at first, they thought the noises were part of the movie. It wasn’t until parts of the ceiling started to fall on her that she and those around her realized something was wrong. While Villaverde was okay enough to tell her story, images show that she has suffered painful-looking injuries to her back and shoulders. Injuries serious enough that she was taken to hospital and will need more X-rays soon. She has also been unable to work since the incident.

Someone Watching Final Destination Bloodlines May Have Narrowly Avoided Death

In a Final Destination-style twist, the incident could have been a lot worse. Villaverde was leaning on the armrest at the time. If she had been sitting properly in her chair, the falling debris would have struck her in the head and, based on the severity of the bruises left on other parts of her body, she might have been left with very serious injuries, potentially even killed.

Even though the story as a whole isn’t one to poke fun at, it’s pretty wild that someone watching a movie about people narrowly avoiding death narrowly avoided death themselves. If we’re going to follow the rules that the Final Destination universe abides by, Villaverde will now be pursued by death as she unintentionally had it skip her by leaning on her armrest when part of the ceiling caved in.

There’s a fast and loose rule in the movies that you may alter death’s plan for you by killing someone else who was also supposed to die in the incident that was supposed to kill you. However, this wasn’t a mass casualty incident like a plane crash, so that probably isn’t an option. Thankfully, this is the real world, not a Final Destination movie, and this is simply a case of someone getting seriously hurt by falling debris who potentially avoided an even worse fate by sitting a certain way.
