Summary
Skyblivion, the fan-made remake ofOblivion, built inside ofSkyrim’s updated Creation engine, is finally nearing the end of itsover-a-decade-long development. The team has reiterated that it’s still on track to launch later this year, but as it’s too big for Nexus Mods to host, the community has long wonderedwhereit will launch. Today, we got an answer.
“GOG has graciously allowed us to bring Skyblivion to their launcher,“u/EvanOnTheWeb revealed. “We’re still evaluating all the possible ways (and launchers) to get Skyblivion into your hands later this year. Of course, more details about how and where we will make Skyblivion available will be shared closer to release.”
Bethesda has shown nothing but support for Skyblivion, inviting the team to its studioandeven sending them free copies of Oblivion Remastered.
The CDPR-owned storefront is best known for championing game preservation, selling DRM-free copies of games so that they can be played independently of digital platforms. However, in the last couple of years, it has also fostered a reputation for supporting the modding community, hosting the ambitious fan-made Fallout London.
With Skyblivion now joining its ranks, GOG is quickly becoming the go-to storefront for modding projects of this calibre.
Skyblivion Isn’t The Only Mod Coming To GOG
As part of its"new era of modding” initiative, GOG also announced that several other notable projects would be brought to the platform.
And They’ll Be Even Easier To Play
Traditionally with mods, you have to download and organise them through separate fan-made and official launchers. It isn’t the most intuitive system for newcomers, hence why there’s a mountain of YouTube tutorials to help you avoid breaking your game (which you will, anyway). GOG wants to streamline the entire experience, opening up these fan-led initiatives to an even wider audience.
Skyblivion requires Oblivion and Skyrim: The Special Edition.
To do that, it’s introducing ‘one-click mods’, starting with Fallout London. You no longer need a launcher to play the game: you may just download and boot it up like anything else on the storefront. So, if you’re on PC, it’ll be as easy to play Skyblivion as it is the official Oblivion remaster.
