Summary
TheFablerevival wasannounced back in 2020, with a cinematic trailer setting the tone, but not giving away much else. Since then, we’ve seen a little bit more, including a player character andsome of the locations we can explore. But it still feels like we’re waiting to really see how the game will play and what we’ll be fighting against, so it wasn’t a huge surprise whenFable was pushed back into 2026.
However, the Xbox Games Showcase was last night, and we didn’t see a scrap of Fable footage. The most we got was Phil Spencer mentioning it in passing, referencing the fact that the new Fable will be with us in time for the 25th anniversary of the original Xbox. Now, these scraps are not tiding fans over as we keep waiting for another trailer, and some are even getting worried about the project.
Fable Fans Are Begging For Another Look At The New Game
“Complete bullst, Fable was the only reason I tuned into the showcase,” says Reddit user HillbillyTechno. “I’m totally bummed out. How do they not have any meaningful gameplay to show after 4 fking years?”
“It got announced 4 years ago and all we’ve had are CG trailers and the occasional snippet of gameplay, and even then that was only 3 months ago,” adds LeeJ2512.
Others take it a step further, saying they are worried about the game. “Only a name drop this year and nothing extra makes me think development is very slow,“saysNaylorBurns.
With that said, others highlight that with the game potentially being more than a year away, it does make sense that Playground is holding off on showing off more footage until closer to launch. Keeping that in mind, we could get more news later this year, alongside a firm release date, narrowing down the vague 2026 window.
At the very least, Spencer mentioning Fable makes it clear that Xbox is aware that we would all be wondering where it was at the showcase. He also sounds confident that it will indeed launch as Xbox celebrates its big anniversary, so fingers crossed, that means there won’t be any more delays.
