Summary

Back in March, we covered the fact thatsomeone was trying to get a Fable 2 recompile project off the ground. If successful, this would make the second game in the much-loved series run natively on PC for the first time ever, since it only ever made it toXbox 360.

However, the project now needs extra hands on board. The previous developer who was leading the project has had to step away, and the current lead, Loreaxe, has quite a lot on their plate. So, they’re looking for coders who have experience with C++ to join the team.

Fable 2 Could Get An Unofficial PC Port, But It Needs Help

Shout out to Reddit user AnFilthyHeathen for both sharing a post to get more folks on board, and for reaching out to me to bring more awareness to the project. While not a dev on the project, AnFilthyHeathen is eager to get more eyes on it and make this fan-made PC port a reality.

The post includes a great explanation of what a recompile actually is, if you’re a little lost. Essentially, it would make Fable 2 run natively on the PC without the need for an emulator. With an emulator, you may play Fable 2 on PC right now, but the recompile would, in theory, run better and allow devs to make tweaks, mods, and improvements much easier.

We saw this withthe Sonic Unleashed recompile, which allowed devs to improve the framerate, add ultrawide monitor support, and even include achievements. So, if you want to see features like this for Fable 2 on PC, and you have experience with C++, you might want to get in touch with the team. You can also check out their progress onGitHub.

In the meantime, both Fable Anniversary andFable 3can be played on PC and console with some improvements, like 60fps. Perhaps one day, Microsoft will remember that the second game exists and show it the love it absolutely deserves. But even if it doesn’t, you should play it anyway - it’s a beautiful game.
