Summary
A Minecraft Movie has been a bigger hit than anyone could have possibly imagined. With more than $900 million at the box office, it has solidified itself as the second-highest-grossing video game movie ever. That number will probably stagnate a little starting today, as you may now watch A Minecraft Movie at home.
The gap between films hitting theaters and being available to watch at home has closed significantly in recent years, and a little more than a month after its theatrical release, A Minecraft Movie is now available on select streaming platforms. If you have access to Amazon, Apple TV, or Fandango, you can watch the hit video game adaptation in the comfort of your own home right now.
Before you rush out and spend all your money on a live chicken to wield during the movie’s infamous chicken jockey scene, A Minecraft Movie is not included in the price of the above platform’s monthly subscriptions, at least not yet. You can rent or buy the film through those platforms, paying $19.99 to rent it, or $24.99 to buy it.
For the extra five bucks, you may as well just buy it, right? The film has so many complex layers, it’s going to take multiple viewings to fully appreciate and understand it anyway.

If You Listen Closely, You Can Hear Theater Employees Weeping Tears Of Joy The World Over
Other than closing in on $1 billion at the box office, A Minecraft Movie has been making headlines for the chaos its screenings have caused at cinemas the world over. As touched on above, the scene responsible for the largest chunk of that chaos is the one where Jason Momoa has to fight a chicken jockey, Jack Black’s declaration of the creature’s arrival sending fans into a frenzy. And yes, someone really did bring a live chicken into a theaterwith them for the scene, holding it above their head before they were forced to leave.
Whether Minecraft fans will be as willing to wreak the same havoc they’ve been inflicting on cinemas on their own homes now that the movie is available digitally remains to be seen. If you’re the parent of a Minecraft-loving kid who plans on sitting them down in front of the TV to watch it, assuming you’ll have 90ish minutes to get some stuff done, maybe keep half an eye on them. I can’t promise they won’t be in there trying to replicate Steve’s lava chicken recipe.
