Quick Links
9 Kingshas a lot of moving parts, and it’s likely impossible that you’ll be able to keep track of all the math going on behind the scenes once you get a few years into your run. There are a multitude of factors that all come into effect at the same time, and all of them make a big difference in how effective your build is.
The only factor that can be made a permanent, pre-run bonus for your selected King are perks. Earning and selecting the right perks for your run can give you a major helping hand when things get tough; here’s everything you need to know.
What Are Perks?
Perks arepassive bonuses that are individual to each King. They provide statistical buffs to the King that you’ve applied them to, and are present for the entire time that you’re using that particular King.
How To Earn Perk Points
Perk Points areearned by leveling up your King, and you level up your King by playing. You earn one Perk Point every time you level up, and that Perk Point is specific to the King that you earned it on.
You can reset your Perks for free before a run by selecting the Reset Perks option. Trying out different Perk combinations and builds is going to make you more familiar with the game mechanically; it’s good to try out different perks often.
All Perks
Each King has nine Perks available to them, with most of them able to be leveled at least one time, if not twice.
Some of these Perks are available on multiple Kings, while others are unique to that specific King. We’ll list the unique Perks for each King in their own section, and then list shared Perks, and which King can use them, in a Common section.
Every Common Perk
The King of Nothingis a very flexible King, andhas no unique Perks. He has access to nine Perks, all of which are available to certain other Kings, as well.
Description
Expansionist
Nothing | Spells | Greed | Blood | Stone | Progress
3
Thisstarts you with one extra unlocked tile perk level. This keeps you from needing to manually expand those tiles, and since they’re there from the start, you’re able to plan around them.
Nothing | Blood | Stone
Thismakes your Towers deal ten percent extra damage, per level. If you’re making heavy use of Towers, this is going to be very beneficial.
Nothing | Nature
2
Thisstarts your run with one extra card from your chosen King, per level. This can help you get off to a smoother start with the cards that you want, but you won’t always get lucky.
Lucky
Nothing | Spells | Greed | Blood | Nature | Stone | Progress
Thismakes special cards 10 percent more likely to be carried by the Merchant, per level. These special cards can be very helpful, but they can also be useless for your particular build.
Ingenious
Thisallows your King’s Castle to level up three more times, per level. If you’ve got heavy plans for using your Castle’s ability, this is a must-have.
Nothing | Nature | Progress
Thisstarts all of your Units off with ten percent extra health. If you’re looking to build any Units that are particularly difficult to put down, this is going to be very helpful in that regard.
Politician
Thisgives you one extra Royal Decree option, per level. If you’ve got a particular set of Royal Decree buffs that you’re looking for, this is going to help you grab them.
Nothing | Spells | Greed
Thisgives you 30 Gold every time you lose a life. This isn’t going to be particularly beneficial; 30-90 Gold is rarely going to save your build from demise. (An exception possibly being with the King of Greed.)
Persistent
Thisgives you two free re-rolls, per level. This is going to help you grab what you want to grab without costing nearly as much Gold, and if you’re lucky, can make a considerable difference.
Every Unique King Of Spells Perk
The King of Spells has Perks that are going tohelp you make better use of your enchantments.
Mystic
Thisstarts your run with one random enchantment in your hand, per level. This can help you get a head start on stacking enchantments, particularly if you get an early Library placed.
Ruthless
Gain a five percent chance to deal infinite damage with the Castleattack per level. If you manage to stack attack speed on your Castle with a Beacon, this can prove extremely effective.
Scholar
1
Thisensures every Library that you place starts at level two. Libraries can play a heavy hand in a Spells run, and this is going to make them more effective, faster.
Every Unique King Of Greed Perk
The King of Greed has Perksmake it easier for you to fill your coffers with Gold.
Nepobaby
Thisstarts your run with 20 extra Gold, per level. If you want the freedom to re-roll right from the beginning to start your run strong, this can help you make that happen.
Oligarch
Thisstarts your run with one Vault card in your hand, per level. The Vault is going to earn you passive income every round, and help you build up a hefty wallet early.
Peddler
Thisallows you to purchase one item for free from the Merchant, per level. This is going to save you, all told, around 100 Gold overall.
Every Unique King Of Blood Perk
The King of Blood Perks areall about empowering your Demons fast.
Cultist
Thisstarts you with one Imp card in your hand, per level. Imps aren’t terribly powerful on their own, but they make great fodder for feeding your Demon Altar.
Pagan
Thisstarts your run with one Demon Altar in a random corner tile, per level. This ensures that your Demons are powering up right from the start.
Summoner
Thisstrengthens your summons by 10 percent per level. Demons are summons, and they’re going to benefit quite a bit from this, especially the further they grow.
Every Unique King Of Nature Perk
The King of Nature Perks don’t have a central focus, but they do allbenefit their unique cards quite a bit.
Healer
Thisstrengthens your Treants attacks by 10 percent, per level. This won’t be too helpful unless you have a Quarry or a Blacksmith, in which case it’s going to be quite helpful.
Pollinator
Thisstarts your run with a Mycelium in a random corner tile, with each level on this Perk increasing the Mycelium level by one. This is going to give your Mycelium the entire run to put out spores, and is going to make a difference, if you give it some buffs.
Tenacious
Thisgives you one Procreate card each time you lose a life, per level. Procreate is going to enable you to get more Units out there, and hopefully ensure your next year isn’t a life lost, as well.
Every Unique King Of Stone Perk
The King of Stone Perks areall about Towers, whether they be defensive or offensive.
Impervious
Thisgives you two Wallmaker cards each time you lose a life, per level. Wallmaker cards allow you to build defenses, and slow down the enemy’s advancement.
Tactician
Thisstarts your run with one random Tower card in your hand, per level. This is going to help you plan your board a little easier from the start, and ideally help you get those Towers buffed a little quicker, as well.
Warden
Thisstarts your Stronghold off with one extra level, per level. This keeps you from having to waste turns leveling it later, and if you get it buffed early, that buff is going to mean more because of the Stronghold’s higher base stats.
Every Unique King Of Progress Perk
The King of Progress has a similar thought process to the King of Nothing, when it comes to Perks. Theydon’t do anything too specific, and instead can support quite a few different playstyles.
Admiral
Thisincreases your Mothership’s movement and attack speed by 10 percent, per level. If you’re making heavy use of this (and supporting it with further buffs), this can make a difference.
Innovator
Thisstarts your run with one Reinforce card in your hand, per level. This is going to help you start a Unit increasing its damage right from the beginning of the run, and that can snowball into greater gains later.
Opportunist
Thisgains you one Gold every time you level up a tile, per level. This is going to fill your pockets slowly but steadily throughout the run, and give you more card options.
