Just like the lunar cycle can affect your moods and the ocean tides,Repo’s moon phases bring new difficulties to your game. These difficulties alter how much health you receive when you leave a map, damage to monsters, and more.
If you’re struggling to understand what these moon phases are and how they can alter your game, or if you’re just curious, we’ve put together everything you need to know about the moon phases in Repo and the challenges they bring to your game.
What Are Moon Phases?
Moon Phases is a unique difficulty system thatbrings new challenges to the game every five levels. The four moon phases currently in the game are:
If you’re just a casual player and don’t care about getting to the higher levels, the first four levels are designed for you.
Monsters areweaker and not as steady on their feet, so hiding and dodging them will be a little easier. Also, you won’t have to worry about overcharge affecting your grabber during these levels. If you have a couple of strength upgrades, you should be able to lift any of the small or medium monsters with ease.
Another great thing about the early levels is that when it’s time to leave the level, the truck healer gives you 50 healthwhen you enter. Additionally, the prices of upgrades, energy crystals, and health packs are cheaper as well.
If anyone on your team is low on health, before you both enter the truck, give them some of your health. This way, when you both enter the truck you’ll get an additional 50 health, andyou shouldn’t need to buy any health packs yet.
Moon phases begin at level five, andchange every five levels. Each phase brings new challenges to your gameplay. These challenges include overcharge,a mechanic that affects how long you can hold onto a monster, changes to the truck healer, how pits affect monster health, and the behavior of monster orbs.
Every Moon Phase And What Difficulties They Bring
Now we’ll get into the specific challenges that each moon phase brings to your game, and how to best survive these new difficulties.
Crescent Moon - Level 5
Starting at level five, the game will start to get a little harder with the arrival of the Crescent Moon. First and foremost, the truck healer now restores 35 healthafter the final extraction has been completed instead of 50.
Hopefully, though, by now you’ve had a few health upgrades and have started stacking up on health packs. You might not have any weapons yet, so it’s still a good idea to hide as much as possible and avoid the monsters.
And speaking of the monsters, they will now bemuch more difficult to knock down with valuablesyou find on the map. If you have something big and heavy, you might still be able to beat up smaller enemies. But the larger monsters will be much sturdier.
Half Moon - Level 10
Level 10 brings the Half Moon phase, which introduces the overcharge mechanic. When you attempt to pick up an enemy, depending on their weight and your strength, your grabber will startbuilding up overcharge energy.
If overcharge fills up, you’ll be knocked back, which releases your grip on the enemy and stuns you. You can mitigate this byupgrading your strength and buying weapons in the storeto use on enemies instead of picking them up.
Also, one of the benefits to playing multiplayer is thatovercharge fills up much slower when there are multiple playerstrying to lift a single enemy.
In addition to overcharge, Half Moon alsolowers the amount of health the truck healer restores to 25, and monsters willno longer die instantly from pits. They’ll still take a lot of damage, but depending on their overall health, they can still survive it.
If you find yourself struggling with the higher difficulties, there areplenty of mods availablethat you can install tomake surviving higher levels a bit easier. Just beware that while the developers support the use of mods, they aren’t able to help if a mod breaks your game.
Full Moon - Level 15
Level 15, the Full Moon phase, doesn’t bring anything new to the game, just a few slight adjustments.
Overcharge will nowfill up 25 percent fasterwhen you grab monsters, and the monsterswill take even less damage when thrown in pits. Smaller enemies, like Upscream or Chef, who have low health will still die from pits. The larger enemies, like Robe or Trudge, are the ones you’ll really have to worry about.
Now that the monsters are getting tougher, your best strategy might be toreserve the pits for the smaller enemiesand use your guns and grenades on the bigger enemies.
Super Moon - Level 20+
The final phase, Super Moon, affects level 20 and beyond. Now your overcharge will fill up50 percent faster when you grab monsters, and enemies will take even less damage from pits than before.
A fun effect that the Super Moon brings, though, is thatorbs dropped by enemies now explode whenever they’re destroyed. So beware! These extremely fragile valuables are now ticking time bombs. One fumble could mean injuring yourself or a teammate.
However, the explosive effect can also beused against other enemies. If you don’t plan on extracting the orbs for cash, just hit the monster to break the orb and witness the explosive chaos.
For now, these are the only moon phases the devs have placed into the game, but they’ve said thatthey plan on adding more.
