Summary
While celebrating 3.5 million sales, FromSoftware announced thatElden Ring Nightreignwill get a duos option “at a later date” this year.
It’s been a highly requested feature even before the game launched, and was a focal point in many of the opening reviews, which dragged Nightreign down to a ‘Mixed’ Steam scoreon day one. FromSoftware later apologised, with director Junya Ishizaki explaining thatit was “overlooked” as the team honed in on balancing solo and trio Expeditions.
In addition to the DLC releasing later this year, new additions will be gradually implemented, including enhanced fights against existing Nightlords starting this month.
However, even before the announcement of a dedicated duos option, Nightreign clawed back a ‘Mostly Positive’ score. With patches already being rolled out to address feedback, and with duos underway, it looks as though FromSoftware has won back some goodwill, though many players are still upset at the lack of cross-platform support.
Solo Is Also Being Rebalanced
If you’d rather go it alone, though, FromSoftware has also been tweaking solo Expeditions. Just yesterday,it rolled out a patch that made single-player easier, implementing the “Automatic Revival Upon Defeat” effect to the beginning of every solo Expedition, while also boosting the number of Runes acquired from defeated enemies.
It’s a start, but many still argue that solo needs further work. While it’s easier to level up and enemies have less HP,you’re still at a severe disadvantage. Certain bosses like Gladius (the first Nightlord) are designed with trios in mind, splitting into three, and you don’t have teammates to get you back up. Sure, you may buy a Wending Grace before every Nightlord, but that’s one revive versus as many as your allies are capable of.
That being said, someone has already beaten the game solo.
Nonetheless, with duos on the horizon and “new additions” promised for later this year, it’s looking up for Nightreign after a rocky start.
