It’s interesting to see a FromSoftware game experience the concurrent player number peaks and valleys that you see in live-service games.Elden Ring Nightreignhas remained very popular since its release on May 30, but the recent update has brought players back en masse to try the new Everdark Sovereign mechanic.
Everdark Sovereigns are essentially powered-up versions of Nightlords, only available to players who have defeated the original iterations of these Nightlords. A new Everdark Sovereign is set to release every week over the next few weeks, with the Everdark Sovereign version of the Gaping Jaw Nightlord kicking off the new event.
According toBandai Namco, these new bosses “are extremely challenging and pose an even greater threat to the Nightfarers with new moves and increased power.”
Peaks & Valleys
While Nightreign had been averaging around 100,000 players on Steam before the update, that number hasjumped up significantlyin the day since the update was released. The average is up to about 120,000 concurrent players, with a peak of 160,000 players over the last 24 hours.
The Sentient Pest and Darkdrift Knight are getting the Everdark Sovereign treatment over the next couple of weeks, with plans to power up Tricephalos, Augur, Equilibrious Beast and Fissure in the Fog at a later date.
Gaping Jaw will be present in Elden Ring Nightreign until June 25 at 6 PM PDT. Presumably, the Everdark Sovereign version of The Sentient Pest will then be added shortly after. Defeating one of these bosses grants the player a new currency called Sovereign Sigils, which can be exchanged for “special relics and other items.”
Although some players are struggling with the new, powered-up version of Gaping Jaw, others are breezing through the boss fight with little difficulty. In fact, a player namedSkum has defeated Gaping Jaw bare-handed, a feat he’s accomplished with every Nightlord in Elden Ring Nightreign.
Elden Ring Nightreign is currently available on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
