A co-op spin-off ofFromSoftware’s iconic Elden Ring, the game will task you and two others to venture out into the Limveld to fight nightmares of all kinds in a rogue-like formula. However,despite the large player count, the game has opened to’Mixed' reviews on Steam.
The main reason for these mixed reviews is exactly what most of you think it is, the lack of a duos mode. Devoting so much time into a game as an adult is tough as is, but finding two others to do so on the same schedule is nigh impossible. This was compounded by the fact that there’s no voice-chat, making matchmaking with a random person excruciating.
Eden Ring Nightreign Players Complain About Lack Of Duos And Voice Chat
“No duo option, had random people join to just run off and do their own thing. Let me duo with my mate,” said the highest rated negative comment on Steam. SinceFromSoftware “overlooked” the duos mode, Nightreign forces you into matchmaking for a third player. However, with no voice chat feature, it’s hard to coordinate the tough boss battles.
“The solo queue is abysmal (queuing up to play with randoms),” said another review. “Without [voice chat] it’s super hard to coordinate where to go, where chests/consumables are, trying to drop items for teammates, etc.” The simple act of moving as a group is also compromised due to the missing features.
FromSoftware has said that it will be implementing a duos mode post launch, but no timeline has been given for it. It seems the game isn’t quite balanced for two players just yet, so the devs decided to omit it at launch. However, players are having issues with the balancing even on solo mode, so it’s rough either way.
“I am a 41 year old man and I don’t have friends to regularly play this with, let alone 2 others,” explained another player. “Even if they bring voice chat in the game (i’m not sure how there isn’t one at the moment) you won’t really enjoy this as much as if you were trying to fight with buddies, as your responsiveness with randoms will affect how you feel about your game a lot.”
Hopefully, FromSoftware is working on bringing duos mode soon, or at least implementing voice chat. It does feature a ping system, but in an expansive world like that of Nightreign, there’s only so much you can communicate via pings.
