Summary
Elden Ring Nightreignisn’t the greatest when it comes to explaining things to you, and some of that is by design. It’s a game that definitely encourages you to experiment and figure things out for yourself, which is whypeople have only just found out what boluses do, and that you can actuallytake on the tutorial boss again and beat him for a special reward.
Another good example of this is the mystery of the Core End, which is a rare key item that you can obtain on your runs through Limveld. You can’t do all that much with it, and the only clue you get as to its purpose is the description of the item, which simply reads “Gain entry somewhere”. Not very helpful when you’re exploring an area as massive as Limveld.
Elden Ring Nightreign Fans Discover How To Use Rare Item, Immediately Disappointed
Thankfully, FromSoftware fans are now pretty used to unraveling mysteries of this nature, and the Core End’s true purpose wasdiscovered by Twitter user Byf60Vearlier this week (thanks Automaton). Just as the description suggests, you can use the Core End to open up a mysterious door that you can find in a valley towards the north-east of the central castle.
Unfortunately, that’s where the fun and mysterious element of this mystery ends. Given that the game doesn’t tell you where this door is or what to do with the Core End, you’ll naturally assume that figuring out such a mystery would result in you earning something really cool. Maybe something like a powerful weapon or helpful talisman?
You get neither of these things. Venture into the room previously blocked by the door, and you’ll find a Sacrificial Twig, which is an item that allows you to keep your Runes on your person even if you do. Sure, it’s pretty helpful, but dying isn’t exactly something you should be doing all that often on an Elden Ring Nightreign run, as you’ll find yourself face-to-face with a boss that’s too tough to defeat.
At the very least, if you find yourself with a Core End, you know exactly what to do with it now. A Sacrificial Twig is better than nothing, and even though we got nothing but disappointment for our efforts, it was nice to have another FromSoftware-esque mystery to solve for a little while.
