Summary
Elden Ring Nightreignis now just about a week away. You and two friends will be able to traverse across Limveld as various class characters, some more famous than others. You’ll also come across some familiar faces fromFromSoftware’s pantheon of nightmarish bosses, but they’ll be tougher than you remember.
Thankfully, you don’t have to play with two other players if you don’t want to. Nightreign will scale accordingly if you go solo. Of course, it’s a FromSoftware game, so it will still be hard as nails. While the devs are confident on full-party balancing and solo balancing, it seems they simply overlooked the duos aspect.
Elden Ring: Nightreign Devs Just Forgot About Duos
In a conversation withIGN, director Junya Ishizaki explained that the devs were so focussed on solo and trios, that duos was left out in the cold. FromSoftware probably left it out at lunch because it didn’t want to put out a half-baked version of it. However, he did mention that there are plans to implement it post-launch.
“The simple answer is that this is simply something that was overlooked during development as just a two-player option, so we’re very sorry about that. As we said before, we set out to make this a multiplayer co-op game for three players, balanced for three players, so that was the main focus and it’s at the core of Nightreign.”
Ishizaki explained that the devs also wanted to accommodate those who like to play solo, so they also focussed their efforts on balancing it accordingly. However, in a bid to ensure trios and solo was balanced, they simply didn’t get the opportunity to properly work on duos.
“So in putting all our efforts into that aspect, we kind of overlooked and neglected the duos aspect, but this is something that we are looking at and considering for post-launch support as well.” So, if you and another friend want to play Nightreign without a third, it looks like you’ll have to wait till for a while.
