Summary
Yesterday, it was confirmed thatEAwas shuttering Cliffhanger Studios, a development house fronted by many ex-Monolift Productions staff, andcanceling its single-player Black Panther title in the process.
Mere hours after confirmation that development on the game was ending, though, we’ve seemingly got one of our first major looks at things, thanks to some leaked concept art.
Black Panther Concept Art Leaks Hours After Game’s Cancellation And Cliffhanger Studios' Closure
Ina poston its website, EA stated that its mission was to “build an expansive and reactive world that empowers players to experience what it is like to take on the mantle of Wakanda’s protector, theBlack Panther.” However, two years after its announcement, and after two years of radio silence, the project was abruptly shuttered.
In the last few hours, user notfunEman has posted aseries of tweetsseemingly showing off concept art fromthe now-canceled game. The tweets claim that the title was set to feature T’Challa’s son, Azari, as one of multiple playable characters, with Skrull’s featuring as the game’s main antagonists, having kidnapped T’Challa in an early scene.
This Black Panther game was going to have you play as Tchalla’s son and also include the skrulls as antagonists.
The first swathe of art posted featured a look at Wakanda, and an indication of how we would be traversing it, including a giant holographic map. NotfunEman then shared another range of pictures showing a more intimate look at the game’s setting, and a range of hand-drawn artwork, including Wakanda residents and a Skrull.
If these images are to be believed, with the development experience behind it, this Black Panther game could have been something special. Unfortunately, as is so often the case with the current gaming landscape, we’re not allowed nice things anymore. At least we still haveMarvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, right?
