Summary

Late last week, during Summer Game Fest, Techland revealed that its DLC-turned full-blown game,Dying Light: The Beast, would bereleased on August 22. Accompanied by a rather brutal gameplay trailer,The Beast and its “much darker” version of original protagonist, Kyle Crane, represent the firstDying Lightproject in a couple of years.

That said, while a good portion of fans were upset that the game looks nearly indistinguishable from Dying Light 2, The Beast’s developers, Techland, are treating the interstitical title as if it were Dying Light 3.

Techland Is “Very Confident” In What It Has Cooking With The Beast

In a new interview with Insider Gaming, Tymon Smektala, the franchise director at Techland, affirmed that the game is more than just would-be DLC turned into a $60 full-priced title.

“We reset the whole development,” Smektala revealed. “This is a new game. At some point, a few months ago, we basically started treating The Beast as the next entry in the Dying Light series. Maybe it doesn’t have ‘3’ in it, but for us, it is Dying Light 3.”

Beyond being treated as an entirely new entry internally, Techland also worked to ensure that those who purchase the game will get their money’s worth. Previously,it was revealed that the game would clock in around 20 hours, with the potential to grow for completionists.

To that end, Smektala said, “We are very confident about Dying Light: The Beast. We feel that we have delivered a very interesting game in the universe of Dying Light but also generally as an open-world action survival game.”

With the game’s August 22 release date rapidly approaching, Smektala said that the team has roughly nine weeks to educate and explain to gamers that “they should look at it as the next AAA Dying Light game.” Ultimately, only time will tell if gamers do see things that way, but for now, Techland is saying all the right things.
