Summary
Dying Lightfans aren’t particularly happy about how similarThe Beastlooks toDying Light 2, especially considering it’s now a full-priced game instead of an expansion.
Yesterday’s Summer Game Fest showcase was full of big reveals(such asScott Pilgrim ExandResident Evil Requiem), but one thing we knew about before going in was that Dying Light: The Beast would finally get a proper gameplay trailer. That trailer not only gave us our best look at The Beast yet, but it also confirmed a release date of August 22, meaning we’re just a few months away from reuniting with Kyle Crane.
It wasn’t all good news, though. Shortly after the new trailer was released,it was confirmed that Dying Light: The Beast is going to cost $50, which is seemingly a bit more than fans were expecting. Although The Beast is a standalone game, it seems that thegameplay hasn’t convinced fans that it couldn’t have just been an expansion for Dying Light 2.
Dying Light: The Beast Looks Very Familiar To Dying Light 2 Players
“I Was Really Hoping They Would Change It Up Way More”
For those that don’t know,Dying Light: The Beast was originally going to be an expansion for Dying Light 2, before Techland decided to expand on it and make it a standalone release. While that sounds great for Dying Light fans, it seems that a fair few think that it hasn’t earned its $50 price tag from what we’ve seen.
Over on the Dying Light subreddit,, who noted that they were “disappointed” with how little The Beast looks to have changed from Dying Light 2. They say that the lighting, flashlight, and car (as well as the Beast transformation) are the only real new things, while the combat, weapons, and zombies all look to be the same as before.
It seems that a decent number of Dying Light fans agree with that statement, as a lot of the replies are pointing out how familiar everything is, and saying that Techland should have at least updated the animations and textures, as a lot of things have been brought over from Dying Light 2. While that’s not neccesarily a bad thing, the $50 price point seems to be adding salt to the woundabout how close the two games really are.
The comments under the gameplay revealalso have a lot of fans pointing out how similar The Beast looks to Dying Light 2, so it’s not just the subreddit that has noticed.
Of course, it’s worth keeping in mind that there’s likely a lot about The Beast that we haven’t been shown just yet. We’re still a few months away from launch, after all, so there are bound to be some more differences and things that set it apart from the rest of the series. For now, though, it seems that fans are disappointed that it doesn’t look like a true standalone game.
