Despite an initial stellar start to life, the problems have begun to mount withDune: Awakening. Players have expressed major concerns about the game’s PVP components, including itslack of viability for solo players, theempty and frustrating nature of the Deep Desert, anda lack of PvE exclusive servers.
Developer Funcom has confirmed it will be making some pretty sweeping changes to the game, though it has said it won’t be changing air combat for now, and it certainly has a lot of work to do if it’s to maintainits incredibly vibrant player base.
While PVP is arguably the biggest bone of contention for players at the moment, that’s probably about to change, as over the last few days, Dune: Awakening has seen a significant rise in the number of cheaters.
The Cheaters Have Arrived In Dune: Awakening
Cheaters are nothing new in online games. Rematch, a game which launched last Thursday,is already facing problems, and now Dune: Awakening is following suit.
The last few days have seen a rampant rise in the behaviour, and more and more reports have been cropping up on the Dune: Awakeningsubreddit.
The most common problem seems to be that these hackers are waiting by the entrance to the Deep Desert, stealing ornithopters as players wait to spawn in. There have beenmultiple reportsof players losing their vehicles and items over the last three days alone.
In theirthread, which has been gaining traction, TottiThePotato said, “Currently, in our server, there are hackers stealing every ornithopter at each entrance of Deep Desert whenever players are loading in.” This seems to be a worryingly common experience for players.
This server is impossible to play on. Our guild has been reporting these cheaters and their guild, but nothing has happened to them. Funcom doesn’t even reply to emails.
Unfortunately, while hackers are clearly a problem, and the number of complaints continues to rise, it appears Funcom isn’t doing much to stop it. “I’m on Asia Bifrost,“saidBig_Web_3309. “This server is impossible to play on. Our guild has been reporting these cheaters and their guild, but nothing has happened to them. Funcom doesn’t even reply to emails. This is so sad. I really like this game. But now, everyone in my guild, all 30 of us, has decided to stop playing for now until Funcom does something about it.”
A quick, cursory Google search shows just how easy cheats are to find and install. Fixing this should be Funcom’s number one priority, or its already frustrated player base will jump ship much sooner than anticipated.
