Dune: Awakeningis going through the same problems that every MMO goes through –tons of random issues,PvP griefers being hostile towards PvE players, and, of course, item duplication. Item duplication, otherwise known as duping is a major concern in survival MMOs, where resources are meant to be scarce.
While Funcom did patch out the method that some players were implementing for duping, it looks like another method has been found barely a day later. Someone shared a screenshot of a chat on Reddit, where the other player has tons of Spice Melange in store, seemingly thanks to a duping technique. Thankfully, the new method has beentaken off Reddit, even though it was posted to flag the devs.
There’s Already Another Way To Dupe Items In Dune: Awakening
“This game is cooked. Most of the groups on our server are duping and blatantly showing it off,” said the post byEnndr(viaGamesRadar+). It seems players aren’t afraid of getting banned by the devs for showing off their duped goods, but Funcom has traditionally avoided ban waves. Perhaps it might need to embrace them to get duping and griefing in order.
“I mean, they kinda have to hope it doesn’t show in any server logs then. As I can imagine once they’ve patched the dupe exploit there will be a removal of duped items going down. At least spice if nothing else,” noted one comment." Regardless, as I don’t interact with the player market in any real way, it doesn’t affect me and my enjoyment of the game. But it sucks for those that do."
“It only really affects the competitive community in game, our entire guild might leave if it’s not fixed quickly,” said another. “Stuff like this ruins competitive games.”
While it won’t affect players that solely play PvE and avoid the player market, it’s still a breach of the terms of service and against the spirit of the game. However, not everyone sees it that way. Some feel that people duping doesn’t affect their game at all.
First, not everyone did it, second, they can ban people, including permaban," said another comment. “Third, they can simply drop the whole MMO part of it and push towards solo experience. If you are a degenerative duper or cheater, the game has nothing to offer for you.”
