Before the launch ofDragon Age: The Veilguard,BioWarehad to set up a group of entirely new companions, and tie them into a story that had been set up inDragon Age: Inquisition. This was pulled off with the Vows & Vegeance podcast, which ran for eight episodes, and introduced us to each member of the titular Veilguard.
Now, that podcast has taken home an award of its own. Vows & Vegeance won the prize for Best Audio/Podcast at the Tribeca Festival, being named the top piece of audio media to come out within the year. This comes as The Veilguard itself has made the list of finalists at the Hugo Awards, which takes place later in the summer.
Dragon Age: Vows & Vengeance Podcast Scoops Up An Award Of Its Own
This is a rare bit of good news from Dragon Age: The Veilguard - and a rare update from Dragon Age’s social media. After The Veilguard failed to meet EA’s sales targets, there were mass layoffs at the studio, seeingwriters who had been with the series since the start lose their jobs.
While Vows & Vegeance wasn’t created by The Veilguard’s writers (perhapsexplaining some of its lore inconsistencies), it was overseen by John Epler, who was the creative director on the game. He’s now at Full Circle Studio, another company owned by EA.
Dragon Age has been in the news again this week, asa report from Bloomberg shed some light on the development of The Veilguard. Here, it was claimed that the team were given insufficient time to turn The Veilguard from a lighthearted multiplayer game, into a single-player game with the same tone as previous entries. This isn’t anything new, as directives from EA have reportedly been the reason behind many of BioWare’s misses after its last big success, Dragon Age: Inquisition.
Now, the future of the Dragon Age series is unclear. BioWare is now proceeding with the next Mass Effect game.
