Following a recent report about what went wrong withDragon Age: The Veilguard, a level designer for the game has said thatBioWarecouldn’t have “made a betterDragon Age”.

By now, we all know that Dragon Age: The Veilguard wasn’tquite the game that fans had spent so long waiting for. Although the reviews were fairly positive and there was some good to be found, most agree that it simply didn’t live up to the decade of anticipation, something that EA clearly agreed with after the game’s sales numbers.

While it was already pretty clear what went wrong with Dragon Age: The Veilguard,Bloomberg shared a report earlier in the month that took a deep dive into everything that happened. As illuminating as the report was, though, those who worked on the game aren’t letting it take awayfrom what they released.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Developer Responds To Recent Report

“I’m Damn Proud Of It And The Team”

Following Bloomberg’s report on The Veilguard, former level design supervisor Brian J. Audette took to Bluesky to share their thoughts on everything it revealed. Audette’s response actually happened some time ago, but it’s resurfacedthanks to a recent post on the Dragon Age subreddit from Redditor AversionIncarnate.

In his reply,Audette said that he refutes the claims that BioWare made a “bad or compromised game"and that the team actually made the “best version of what we released, warts and all”. Audette also stated that he’s proud of what the team put together, and that they couldn’t have “made a better Dragon Age”, only a different one.

Alongside that, Audette also pointed out that The Veilguard is still the best-reviewed game that he’s worked on in his 25 year career. Despite Audette’s claims, the Dragon Age subreddit seems pretty mixed on his viewpoints, noting that level design was one of the many issues in The Veilguard and that it was still a disappointment overall.
