Summary
There are many ways you can describe the Doom Slayer, but an excellent conversationalist is not one of them. He doesn’t speak at all in 2016, and only spoke ina flashback cutscene in Doom Eternalwhen he wasn’t actually the proper Doom Slayer, which is the most we’ve ever heard him speak throughout the entire history of the series.
Doom: The Dark Agesonce again had our lovable Doom Slayer open his mouth, and even though it was only a single word, it was absolutely dripping with aura. He’s been getting a lot more talkative recently, at least for his usually silent self, and the Doom Slayer’s constant yapping has had fans arguing about exactly how much he should talk going forward.
Doom: The Dark Ages Players Argue How Often The Slayer Should Talk
In a Reddit post by SuperAlloyBerserker on the Doom subreddit, they ask whether Bethesda and Id Software should make it a “constant tradition” for the Doom Slayer to say one word per entry. They go on to explain that they think his constant yapping in Doom Eternal was a bit too much, but that “only having 1 word is perfect”.
One user called No-Pay-903, and a few other hundred people that upvoted them, would rather only have the Doom Slayer speak “only when he absolutely HAS to”, with another user called Someone4063 adding the caveat that it should also only be “when it’s badass”. No telling people what to do all the time, if there’s no sauce on whatever the Doom slayer is about to say, then he should keep his mouth closed.
On the flip side, another user called ManagementFluid2206 says they’d like to see “what the polar opposite feels like”, and have a game with the Doom Slayer screaming curse words at everything he’s slaughtering, while a user called Adeadfreelancer says they were a little disappointed he didn’t talk more in Doom: The Dark Ages, arguing he could’ve recorded his own audio logs or spoke to other characters to cement their bond to players.
Whatever stance you take on this topic, it’s very possible that the Doom Slayer’s talking days might be over anyway. Doom: The Dark Ages doesn’t really have anywhere to go at the moment, and the reportedly lackluster sales of the gamemay have cast a slight shadow of doubt over whether we’ll actually get another Doom game any time soon.
