Summary

Doom: The Dark Ages' latest patch has nerfed the series' most iconic weapon, the Super Shotgun, and fans are starting to get annoyed with all the constant campaign tweaks.

When you think aboutDoom, what weapon instantly comes to mind?As big and varied as the series' arsenal of guns and melee weapons is, there’s a very good chance that you’re thinking about the Super Shotgun right now, which makes sense since the Slayer’s iconic boomstick has long been known as the best shotgun in gaming, no matter what entry in the series you play.

Doom’s Super Shotgun was already a beast in both the 2016 reboot andDoom Eternal, but it’s even more mighty in The Dark Ages, with its small amount of ammo more than made up forwith its ability to one-hit kill most enemies and decimate stronger foes in a few shots. Well, it used to be anyway, as it’s strangely received a nerf.

Doom: The Dark Ages Has Nerfed The Super Shotgun, For Some Reason

It’s Supposed To Be Powerful!

As pointed out by Redditor PinoyxWolff on the Doom subreddit, the most recent patch that’s just gone live for Doom: The Dark Ages includes even more minor fixes and tweaks to the game, following on from the difficulty increase we got last week. The strangest part of the patch is that the Super Shotgun has seen a significant nerfthat makes it less effective against the Hell Knight and armoured demons.

While it’s true that the Super Shotgun was incredibly powerful and made easy work of a lot of the enemies in The Dark Ages, some fans think it’s annoying how much id Software is messing with the game’s campaign. Several fans pointed out that it’s a single-player game and should just be left alone instead of constantly tweaked, while others point out that the Super Shotgun issupposedto be overpowered.

It’s especially weird to tweak certain weapons when The Dark Ages has a massive suite of difficulty sliders that lets players make their own experience however they like.

There are some fans that defend the move since it made the Super Shotgun far too easy of a choice to use, but most think that it’s a step too far in balancing The Dark Ages. Redditor Campsters2803 put it best when they said, “Unsupers your super shotgun. The thing should feel like you’re shooting a fu**ing cannon. Lame update”.
