If you’re making your way throughDonkey Kong Bananzaand struggling to get a hang of the surprisingly complicated controls, there’s a very simple fix.
As I’m sure all of you who have spent the whole weekend playing it know,Donkey Kong Bananza is a total (banana) gem of a game. Theteam behind Super Mario Odyssey have cooked once again, and DK’s latest adventure is already being heraldedas one of the best platformers that Nintendo has ever put out.
As amazing as Bananza is, though, it’s not without its problems. Not only are some players struggling to play thanks to how easy it is to waste time destroyingeverything in sight, but others arecomplaining about the controls feeling a little off. There’s a very obvious reason for that, though, and an easy fix to boot.
You’re probably playing Donkey Kong Bananza wrong right now
Jump should ALWAYS be B in a Nintendo game
Considering Donkey Kong Bananza comes from Nintendo, you’d be forgiven for assuming that pressing B would result in Donkey Kong jumping, just like it does forMarioand pretty much every other 3D platformer. In Bananza, though, that’s not the case, as B is actually assigned to DK’s punching down move.
That makes sense when consider that X is used to punch up, but all the muscle memory built up from playing Mario games is causing a lot of players to struggle with Bananza’s control scheme. As pointed out by Twitter user Nintendeal, though, there’s actually a very simple fix in the game’s settings that changes everything.
From the moment you start the game, if you go into the options menu and scroll down to DK’s Action Buttons, you’ll see an option to swap around the controls for jumping and punching down. This setting lets you assign the jump button to B (like it’s supposed to be) instead of struggling with pressing A for a few hours.
B and A being swapped around seriously messed with my flow when starting off Bananza, but I haven’t looked back since seeing the option to change.
It seems that I’m not the only one who has been struggling with DK Bananza’s controls, as thecomments section of the tweet is full of people saying that swapping is the best option. Of course, there are also players saying it’s not needed and that itmakes jumping and punching down too hard, but we’ll leave that up to you to decide.
