Donkey Kong Bananzalaunched last week and, unsurprisingly, a lot of people think it’s a pretty good video game. While not as highly-rated as Super Mario Odyssey- the last game that this team of developers made - it still managed to hit a Metacritic and OpenCritic score of 91, making it one of the best games of the year andleaving Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 fans sweating bullets about game of the year season.
It’s a pretty solid return for Donkey Kong, especially since it seems Donkey Kong Bananza is thought of a lot more highly by fans than critics. Now that a bit of time has passed, fans have seemingly decided that the game is actually the best platformer that Nintendo has ever made.
Donkey Kong Bananza Is Nintendo’s Highest User-Rated Platformer Ever
If you check out thetop games on Metacritic sorted by User Score, you’ll find that Donkey Kong Banaza is sitting at a very impressive score of 9.2, which is much higher than the 8.7 score that Super Mario Odyssey currently enjoys. In fact, the only other Nintendo game even close to Donkey Kong Bananza is The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, which also has a user score of 9.2.
That means, in the eyes of Nintendo fans, Donkey Kong Bananza is the joint-best game that the company has ever made. In fact, the game is considered by them to be the best platformer ever made, as Donkey Kong Bananza is the highest-rated platformer on the site. The only one that’s close to Bananza is Banjo-Kazooie, which has a user score of 9.1.
Of course, we should absolutely take user scores with a pinch of salt, as they don’t always guarantee quality. I might be out of line by saying this, but I don’t think people actually believe that Disney’s Cory in the House is truly an experience worthy of a 9.3.
It’s also worth pointing out that Donkey Kong Bananza has a lot less reviews than the games previously mentioned, so there’s plenty of time for the game’s score to go up or down. You never know, Nintendo could randomly decide to update the game with a feature nobody asked for andextremely tick off its entire fanbase.
