The reign of theNintendo Switch 2officially moves forward today asDonkey Kong Bananza, the console’s second major first-party exclusive, has arrived. To mark the occasion, Nintendo has revealed a whole range of newDonkey Kongmerch, the centerpiece of which is a giant Donkey Kong plush based on the mascot’s new design.
The newly revealed Donkey Kong plush is based on the Bananza protagonist’s new design. The design fans have had the chance to grow accustomed to by now, as it made its video game debut inMario Kart World. DK’s new plush is still just wearing his signature tie, though. Nintendo confirmed this week thatthey put britches on Donkey Kong in Bananza because of how much we’ll be staring at the back of him.
Nintendo has revealed a giant Donkey Kong plush to celebrate Bananza’s arrival
I’m no longer interested in playing Bananza until he’s sitting next to me
As enamored as I am with DK’s new design, and hence his new plush, the size of the thing is the real selling point. While it’s not life-size likePokemon’s new range of Eeveelution plushes, it is still pretty big. It’s a little over 30 inches tall, which, as demonstrated by the official images shared byMeccha Japan, means the plush is roughly waist height.
Unfortunately, it looks like, for now at least, the 30-inch Donkey Kong is exclusively available in Japan. It’s been spotted in Nintendo’s Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka stores and will also be available throughJapan’s online Nintendo store, although the price and release date haven’t been revealed. That doesn’t mean we’ll never be able to buy it in the US and elsewhere, though.
There are Nintendo stores in the US too, and we might see news filtering through later today confirming that the big DK is available in those locations too. At the very least, and as someone living in the UK where there is no Nintendo store, I hope it and the rest of the new Donkey Kong merch revealed today is made available online worldwide.
There’s some other cool stuff in the rest of the range, too. A Diddy Kong plush backpack, a pair of bumpy banana socks, and what looks like a towel with a 2DDonkey KongCountry-inspireddesign. Again, all of it is exclusively available in Japan until we hear otherwise. If you do want some Bananza merch while we wait for news on a worldwide release for this new range, the barrel plush with the suspiciously-sized banana slot in the top is still available.
