If you’re anything like me, you sat through theDonkey Kong BananzaDirect wondering: Where on earth is Diddy Kong? The little primate wasunceremoniously dumped out of Mario Kart World, despite dozens of other weird and wonderful characters appearing, so the longer he didn’t appear in the Direct, the more it felt like Diddy Kong erasure was happening before our eyes.
Fortunately for us Diddy Kong enjoyers, the Kong appears for a split second a couple of times in the trailer alongside his girlfriend, Dixie Kong, confirming he will, in fact, be in the game. His appearance, though, has blown open the Mario timeline.
Diddy Kong Will Be Making His Nintendo Switch 2 Debut In Donkey Kong Bananza
It took until the very end of Nintendo’sDonkey Kong Bananza DirectforDiddy Kongto appear, leaving fans of the little guy on tenterhooks. He first appeared alongsideDixie Kongduring theAmiibo section of the broadcast, with the duo seemingly running a shop, complete with cash registers and Rambi figures.
The pair then appears a little bit later in the Direct’s closing montage, riding a Rhinoceros alongside Donkey Kong in what appears to be some kind of Rambi Race.
FollowingDiddy Kong’s recent redesign, Nintendo moved to quell any fears that he would be absent from the game,posting a pictureof the trio happily riding their rhinos on social media.
It’s great to see Diddy back in a Nintendo game, following hisMario Kart Worldsnub, but it does raise questions about the Donkey Kong Bananza and widerSuper Mario Bros.timeline. IfPauline is a kidat the same time as Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong are still children, does that mean they are all the same age? Does that mean that inSuper Mario Odyssey, for example, when Pauline is the mayor ofNew Donk City, Diddy and Dixie are all grown up? I have questions,Nintendo, and I need them answered.
