Donkey Kong Bananza’s director, Kazuya Takahashi, has seemingly teased that fan-favourite Diddy Kong might finally appear in more games in the future.
We’re just one short week awayfrom the long-awaited release of the Nintendo Switch 2’s big launch game, Donkey Kong Bananza, and the wait is starting to get a little unbearable. While most players are excited to jump in and punch everything in sight, real Donkey Kong fans knowthat the real excitement comes from getting to see a long-abandoned old friend.
I am, of course, talking about Diddy Kong. Over the past few years, Nintendo has seemingly wanted nothing to do with the littlest Kong, fromtaking a decade to include him in Mario Kart 8tocompletely leaving him out of the latest game in the series. Bananza has a lot more respect for the little guy, though, and that might just be the start.
Donkey Kong Bananza director hints at more Diddy Kong in the future
DK’s best pal isn’t being replaced with Pauline
Last month during the Donkey Kong Bananza Direct,it was finally confirmed that both Diddy and Dixie Kong will be making an appearance in the game, something that most of us figured wasn’t happening. It seems that Diddy Kong is staying rent-free in Donkey Kong Bananza director Kazuya Takahashi’s mind,as a recent interview with Rolling Stone has proved.
After discussing why Pauline was picked as DK’s new companion in Bananza,Takahashi dropped a rather interesting hint for any long-term Donkey Kong fans, as he said, “Maybe you’ll see more of Diddy in the future”. Considering we know that Diddy is in Bananza already, that does seem to be a little nod to him showing up elsewhere.
Bananza’s producer, Kenta Motokura, also shared some thoughts on Cranky Kong and noted that he was the one character the team wanted to make sure was included.
As for what Diddy Kong’s future could actually include, it’s really not clear from Takahashi’s comment. It could just be some hopeful musing on Diddy showing up in future games, but it could be a nod to projects in the works with the character. For now, it seems likely to be some wishful thinking from the director, but it’s the closest we’ve got to any kind of idea about Diddy Kong’s standing atNintendo.
