Donkey Kong Bananzaisn’t even out yet, butNintendois getting ahead of the curve and admitting that its impressive destruction physics could “slightly” cause some issues.
Well, Donkey Kong fans, we’re finally in thehome stretch for the big guy’s first new game in more than a decade - Donkey Kong Bananza. TheSwitch 2’s big flagship game (sorry,Mario Kart World) is just a few days from release, and it’s shaping up to beone of the standout titles of the year.
While impressions for Donkey Kong Bananza so farhave been pretty much nothing but positive, that hasn’t stopped the game’s director from being surprisingly upfront about some potential issues players may face. The noted framerate issues seems to be very minor in the grand scheme of things, but it’s something I never thought I’d see Nintendo specifically highlight.
Donkey Kong Bananza director says players may experience some “slight” performance issues
DK’s destruction might come at a bit of a cost
Over the past week or so,Nintendo has been going all out with Donkey Kong Bananza interviews, which mostly feature the game’s director, Kazuya Takahashi. As pointed out by Twitter user Stealth40k, one of thoseinterviews was with Lavanguardia, who asked the director about some of the game’s minor performance issues.
Those performance issues were noted by some who previewed the game and went hands-on with its main destruction gimmick. In response to the frame rate hiccups, Takahashi noted that there are “several factors to consider”, like the use of hit-stop and slow motion to emphasise effects, as well as the reliance on voxel technology.
Overall, Takahashi admits thatNintendois “aware that performance may drop slightly at these times”, which seems like a bit of a warning to players about what to expect. The director still says that the game is “smooth” overall, and that Nintendo favoured “fun and playability” in cases where slowdown might occur.
It’s a fairly minor warning in the grand scheme of things and one that’s not likely to impact most players that severely. Still,it’s a big shift for Nintendo to even think about performance and frame-rate, let alone note that there might be some minor issues with it.
