Summary

It’s official: anotherDungeons & Dragonsgame has been greenlit byWizards of the Coast. The new title will be an action-adventure game, and is being developed by a studio founded bythe director of the Star Wars Jedi series.

The game doesn’t have a name right now, but it follows on from the groundbreaking success ofBaldur’s Gate 3, which was developed byLarian. It’s unclear if this new game will contunue in the Baldur’s Gate series, but WotC has the rights to the characters, so companions like Wyll, Karlach, and Shadowheart could appear or be referenced in the new game.

A New Dungeons & Dragons Game Is Being Developed By God Of War, Star Wars Jedi Director Stig Asmussen

As reported byGameSpot, WotC has now confirmed that it’s signed a publishing deal with Giant Skull. This studio was founded last year by Stig Asmussen, who was previously with Respawn. At Respawn, he directedStar Wars Jedi: Fallen OrderandSurvivor. Prior to this, he worked on theGod of Warseries.

As for this new D&D game, details are scarce. The announcement describes it as a “single-player action-adventure” game, so not an RPG like Baldur’s Gate 3. There’s also no mention of the Forgotten Realms, so it might not link to Baldur’s Gate 3 or the previous two entries in the series much at all.

Still, we might get a few nods to Larian’s hit RPG. Since Baldur’s Gate 3 was made as part of a similar agreement, all of the characters made for it belong to WotC, not Larian. With Larianmoving on with two different RPGs- neither of which are Baldur’s Gate related - that means that WotC is free to do what it pleases with the fan-favourite companions.

Whatever this ends up looking like, Hasbro has said that it’s aware thatpeople are after more “great D&D games”, so hopefully, Giant Skull are given the time to cook with this. There’s no word on when it will be with us, but we’re told it is aiming to launch on console and PC.
