Earlier this week, duringSony’s impromptuState of Play presentation, it was revealed thatDigimon Story: Time Stranger, the next game in the Digimon Story series, will be making its way to consoles on October 3.
While it’s only beena handful of years since Digimon Survive was released, the last Digimon Story game, Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth — Hacker’s Memory, came out well over seven years ago, making Time Stranger a particularly momentous occasion for longtime fans of the franchise. That said, the hype bubble has seemingly been burst after it was revealed what the game’s framerate will be.
Digimon Are The Champions, But Not Of Framerate
As first spotted by Gematsu, via a release fromBandai Namco, the game will run at 30fps across bothPlayStationandXbox Seriesconsoles. It will, however, support 60fps onPCduring “optical conditions.”
It represents a rather major blow for those on console, particularly as the game has been set for a current-gen-only release, meaning there is noPlayStation 4orXbox Oneto figuratively “hold” things back.
On Reddit, in response to the news,one gamer called it"total incompetence" on the part of the developers. Others shared the same sentiment, with some saying that the low framerate will have them waiting for a sale instead of getting the game at launch.
“There’s zero reason for games like this to be only launched with a 30fps mode on modern consoles,“another gamer chimed in.
They’re not wrong in their assessment,but as another fan noted, “I’m just happy we’re getting a legit new Digimon game,” which is also fair. It’s just unfortunate that the “legit new” game will be held back for seemingly no reason. At least,there will be over 450 Digimon to mess around with.
